Weeaboo, additionally known as Wapanese, is an English slur given to people obsessed with Japanese media and sometimes dismissing all alternative cultures.
Due to the similar attributes between Otaku and Weeaboo, people often get confused between the two of these. Weeaboo typically chooses Japanese media (Anime, Manga, etc.) over the particular Japanese culture and believes Japan to be a charismatic place that may do no wrong.
Weeaboos are generally not Japanese or Asian and curse their true heritage. They typically excessively use and mispronounce common Japanese words in everyday English sentences.
No matter the term (Weeaboo or Wapanese), they’re not checked out in a brilliant light by anyone. Otaku perpetually tries to distance themselves from Weeaboo.
According to Know Your Meme, the term Wapanese was introduced in the first 2000s. It was used as a slur on 4chan and numerous alternative websites against those that pet Anime and Manga. Additionally, the Know Your Meme explains the introduction of Weeaboo:
“At the height of its abuse in mid-2005, 4chan moderators devised a creative intervention using the word filter by replacing each instance of Wapanese with “Weeaboo,” which was a fictitious term originally coined by Nicholas Gurewitch in his Perry Bible Fellowship cartoon (date unknown, comic #62).”
